Due Diligence!
Reduce Driver Liability,
Increase Profits!
Did You Know...
Motor vehicle collisions are the greatest single cause of
traumatic workplace fatalities in Ontario. Between 2000 and
2005, it is estimated that vehicle crashes were responsible
for 199 work related deaths, accounting for more than 30%
of all work-related traumatic fatalities.
Do you have drivers?
- Personal vehicles
- Company cars
- Delivery Vans Service Trucks
- Tractor Trailers
- Construction Vehicles
Research confirms that individuals driving on company business
are more likely than other road users to be involved in a
collision resulting in death or serious injury.
Employer responsibilities? Article 3 of Bill C-45 provides
that every one who undertakes, or has the authority, to direct
how another person does work or performs a task is under a
legal duty to take reasonable steps to prevent bodily harm
to that person, or any other person, arising from that work
or task.
What do you do to manage your
employees risks associated with ‘driving
at work’. Does a valid drivers licence and
a clean abstract ensure the safety of
their employees, and others, when they
are on the road. It is the employers
responsibility to ensure, as far as is
reasonably practicable, the health and
safety of employees while at work. It is the
employers responsibility to carry out an
assessment of the risks to the health
and safety of their employees while they
are at work, This includes work-related
driving activities. Employees driving on
company business are considered to be
undertaking a work activity and the vehicle
they are driving, regardless of ownership,
is regarded as a place of work.
What is your Due Diligence responsibility?
As an Employer you must:
Establish a simple and effective safety management system
for driving at work just as you would for any other work related
activity.
This should include:
- Comprehensive road safety policies supported by top management.
- Road safety management procedures, including risk assessments for both drivers and specific driving tasks.
- Maintain and review accident statistics. Look for common trends and risks.
- Implement safe practices that eradicate or minimize identified driving risks.
- Ensure managers understand their role and responsibilities for managing road risk and are able to apply company policy.
- Ensure drivers are given relevant information, training and supervision to be safe on the road.
- Regularly audit the safety of journeys and amend policies and procedures accordingly if new risks are identified
Benefits of a proper occupational
Road Safety Program:
- Reduced collision frequency and severity
- Reduction in direct and indirect financial costs involved in road collisions
- Fewer vehicles off the road for repair
- Reduce the need for and cost of replacement vehicles
- Reduced fleet running costs due to better driving standards
- Reduced risk of injury to the companies most valued asset, their employees
- Increased satisfied customers as a result of fewer missed or late orders due to non-delivery
- Increased productivity due to higher moral, less time off work due to reduction in injury
- Increased trade in value to vehicles
- Increased corporate responsibility and improved safety culture
OUR SECRET:
Driving is a mental Skill!
Each driver processes risk differently,
we give them the tools to process their risk.
Canadian Pro Drivers programs train
the brain! We train the Driving
Personality of your drivers!
There are no accidents! Drivers cause
collisions and collisions can be avoided.
Understanding and recognising each
drivers risk factor is the first step to
predicting accident prevention.
Canadian Pro Drivers understands the
motivation behind Driver Behaviour
and have created a unique behavioural risk assessment program
specifically for occupational drivers.
This program along with our In-class
“driver personality” program is available
exclusively through CPD. Based on
Myers – Briggs Personality types we can
predict the Driver Risk factor (DRF).
This cost effective assessment will then
provide your drivers with proper mental and
physical options to reduce that risk.
Changing Driver Behaviour - The key
to Sustainable Collision Prevention
Our risk factor program allows us to
target those drivers most at risk. It may
also be used to identify drivers who
would benefit from refresher training as
part of a long term driving safety policy
. The difference we make in training is
that we make all drivers aware of their
own risk factor as well as providing
them with the knowledge to understand
the risk factors of the drivers
around them, preventing the potential
collision.
